Somebody called me that a few days ago..
Naturally, it made me think of Edie Sedgwick. That was yet another title amongst many that was given to her, only this time, it was by Life magazine in 1965.

The girl who not only introduced tights (or leggings) but she was famous for introducing chandelier earrings - which most of us ADORE to this date. |

Oh the animal prints.. What a trend to set.. |
 |
Fur - which a lot of us love. It was a beautiful trend to set. |
 |
The very heavy yet chic eye make up that is famous today, is what she introduced. |
Often compared to Twiggy - the famous British model, she was a beauty - and what a beauty this socialite was. Girls today aspire to look and dress - even BE like her. The world of fashion was on a standstill - just watching.. Admiring..

Thinking about Edie, immediately made me think of none other than Andy Warhol (the man who made Pop art what we pay thousands for today - heck our Macbooks even have that option on photobooth!) & their infamous friendship.
He is famously quoted for saying, "During the 1960s, I think, people forgot what emotions were supposed to be. And I don't think they've ever remembered. "
How true. Even though Warhol was and still is often blamed for Edie Sedgwick's descent into drug addiction and mental illness, it is said that before meeting Warhol, Edie had been in mental hospitals twice and came from a family with a history of mental illness. She was only close to Warhol for about a year. That one year of friendship had one of the biggest impacts on her life.
Coming to the point of which I am writing this - is destructive relationships and in most cases, friendships.
Sometimes you can relate to what others have felt - socialites, fashion designers etc. They're human like us too and similarities will be there.
Things start of great, there's good times and eventually you hit bad times and while you're hitting a few bumps - which all relationships do, instead of waiting for the dust to settle so you see a clear road ahead, it ends.
In this case she was led to addictions, sense of betrayal, ACTUAL betrayal and then death. And over what? Petty jealousy? The small things that cause this very evil emotion leads to people treating you like crap and then they walk away - and the world just see's you as the wreck.
Warhol's quote couldn't be more correct, especially today. When you reflect back on those words, and look around you today, he is a hero for having said that.
In factory girl, where Sienna Miller FABULOUSLY portrayed Edie's character, there is a phone conversation scene between Edie and Warhol - my favorite scene from the whole movie - on the basis of their friendship that is, which goes as follows:
AW: I wonder if people are going to remember us?
ES: What, when we're dead?
AW: Yeah.
ES: Well I think people will talk about how you changed the world.
AW: I wonder what they'll say about you... in your obituary. I like that word.
ES: Nothing nice, I don't think.
AW: No no, come on. They'd say, "Edith Minturn Sedgwick: beautiful artist and actress...
ES: ...and all around loon.
AW: ...Remembered for setting the world on fire...
ES: ...and escaping the clutches of her terrifying family...
AW: ...Made friends with eeeeverybody, and anybody...
ES: ...creating chaos and uproar wherever she went. Divorced as many times as she married, she leaves only good wishes behind.
[ laughs]
ES: That's nice, isn't it?
To the real girl with the black tights, Rest in peace.
